In the Bible there is a term, “kashab.” Here is the definition:
The Hebrew word “kashab” (קָשַׁב) means to listen, to give heed, or to pay attention. It is derived from a primitive root meaning to prick up the ears, indicating a state of being attentive or receptive. This term is used in various contexts, such as in biblical passages where it emphasizes the importance of listening to God’s voice or the instruction of a teacher. Strong’s Hebrew: 7181. קָשַׁב (qashab) — To listen, to give heed, to pay attention
It’s fitting that I heard a preacher use this term in his sermon today because the United States of America is in a place where it applies. We had better be attentive or receptive to what is going on in our country or else we may suffer the destruction of our country, our society, our way of life, and our freedom.
We’ve had other moments like this in our history. Pearl Harbor. JFK’s Assassination. 9-11. The near assassination of President Trump.
Some might include Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
The thing that all of these events have in common is that they showed the U.S. that we needed to pay attention to what is going on in the world and in our country because we had become lax, uninterested, lazy, and overconfident.
When President Trump was elected last November, many conservatives in this country took a deep breath as they assumed things would go better now. In many ways they have.
In one way they have not. We still have people in this country who absolutely hate our country, our way of life, and even us. We thought they were on the fringes of society, kooks who no one listened to or cared about. They screamed threats at us and we laughed. We figured they would give up and go away or at least would be placed in mental health facilities.
Then we realized just how bad these people were. They attacked us on the internet and in the streets. They celebrated the death of one of us and threatened that the same would happen to the rest of us. We reported them, they got arrested, and we thought that was the end.
Unfortunately, they would love to see all Conservatives die, even Conservatives in their families.
We didn’t realize that some of them would actually get elected to office.
And then they did.
First, it was the Democrat candidate for Attorney General in Virginia, a vile man who actually wished death on a political opponent in a Tweet on X. Not only that but he doubled down and wished death on the man’s children as well. In normal times, he not only would have been condemned by his supporters, the Democrats, but he would have been forced to leave the ticket. He might have even been charged and arrested.
He got elected to the highest law enforcement office in his state. That is a sick irony that will come back and bite the state and Democrats in a huge way.
Then it was the candidate for Governor in New Jersey, a woman who didn’t report her classmates who cheated on an exam at the Naval Academy. She graduated but didn’t get to participate in the graduation ceremony. At the very least, a lack of character. During any other election in a different time, she would have been drummed off the ticket.
She also won.
The final, and biggest, wakeup call was the candidacy of Zohran Mamdani to the office of Mayor of New York City. Mamdami, an avowed Communist, has praised the “global intifada” and has allied himself with Muslim extremists who support Hamas and Hezbollah. He wants to “tax the rich” while he himself is rich. He has promised freebies to the citizens of New York, freebies that the city cannot afford. Even the Governor of New York, a crazy Progressive, as said the state will not participate in the lunacy.
Mamdani promotes confiscation of private property and public competition with private business for basics such as grocery stores or rents. Twenty-four years after Islamic terrorists killed 3,000 people in New York City, he returns to do social and financial harm. Surely, New Yorkers wouldn’t elect such a horrible person.
But they did.
I’ve heard all the gloom and doom, handwringing and angst that has been rife on social media since last week, but it’s a waste of time now that the water is under the bridge. I’ve also heard Progressives proclaim that this is “the end of conservatism” in the United States. (Those last comments make me laugh.)
I’d rather see this as it is. A wake-up call for conservatives and for our country.
You see, there is a lot of money out there backing progressives. This money, given through foundations like Soros’s Open Society Foundation, backs “paid to protest” groups like Indivisible, which organized the infamous “No Kings” marches, “Refuse Fascism” which is allegedly linked to Antifa, “Detention Watch Network” which supported “Ice Out of Home Depot” through the Tides Foundation, and the “Sunrise Foundation” which allegedly supports Antifa in Atlanta, Georgia. (Sources: Soros-linked protesters organizing ‘ICE Out of Home Depot’ vigils this weekend, House Republicans Demand Records from Soros-Funded Groups Over Alleged Antifa Ties – IJR, House GOP probe targets Soros-linked groups over alleged Antifa funding ties)
LOCAL NOTE: Indivisible, Sunrise Foundation, and Detention Watch Network are active in Maryland in counties like Harford, Montgomery, Prince Georges, and Howard. There are no doubt more.
We’ve all seen the videos where protesters proudly proclaim that they were “paid to protest.” Here is an interview with the CEO of a business that provides paid protesters:

And, no surprise that Soros possible supported Mamdami in New York City. Investigative reports allege Soros-linked charities funneled $40 million to support NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, raising concerns about tax-exempt groups engaging in partisan politics. (Source: George Soros-linked charities funneled $40M to support Zohran Mamdani’s campaign: Report)
So, while it’s important to pay heed to the wakeup call, let’s not panic over these paid protesters who cause us anxiety. However, we can’t go to sleep either or take a break.
Conservatives need to take a critical look at the Republican Party, conservative organizations, and our own actions so we can get active and moving again.
After Charlie Kirk was assassinated, the Christian Right was activated. Every day we saw more groups on colleges, in towns, etc. promoting the beliefs of Conservatives and, specifically, Kirk’s Organization, Turning Point USA. The energy lasted for a while but, with that energy came people seeking to piggy back on Kirk’s fame for attention. These were people promoting all kinds of theories, even to allege that Kirk’s own wife had him killed. This kind of dreck slowed things down.
Then, as we watched the elections in Virginia, New Jersey, and New York, Conservatives realized that they had not done enough to both recruit good candidates or candidates who were at all viable. Republicans don’t venture into New York City, complaining that it’s just too hard to break through the Progressive wall there. To be sure, the Republican Party didn’t put much money into the NYC race, knowing that Curtis Sliwa had no chance. And even the Democrats, who should own New York, blew it with allowing Andrew Cuomo, a severely damaged candidate, to run at all. So, Mamdami, the Communist, won.
In Virginia and New Jersey, the problems were much different. Virginia should have been a fairly easy win if the Republicans had put up a MAGA affiliated gubernatorial candidate. Instead, they ran Winsome Sears, a woman who had declared her dislike for Trump frequently. MAGA Conservatives don’t forget that easily. Just ask Maryland’s Larry Hogan.
As for the Attorney General in Virginia, it’s a mystery. He aligned himself with Trump and seemed like a popular candidate. Unfortunately, the top of the ticket in Virginia doomed the down ballot, at least in this case.
In New Jersey, it’s hard to determine why Ciatterelli lost except that he had already lost the gubernatorial race three times AND Republicans didn’t turn out for him this time. In a deep blue state every red vote counts. If you are a Republican in New Jersey, you have to run a perfect campaign. Clearly, Ciatterelli didn’t do that. Many in New Jersey said he was not the right candidate.
Let’s not forget that all these elections were in deep blue or profoundly purple areas.
And, overall, the Democrats keeping the government shut down certainly impacted the election. Many people don’t know whose fault a shutdown is, just that it ticks them off. So, when a guy comes along in NY and wants to give them free stuff, they jump at the chance.
Where do we go from here?
Conservatives have to do what Democrats have pledged to do. We need to fight for EVERY SINGLE election, local, state and national. We have to understand that NO ELECTED POSITION is unimportant! Even your local central committee matters!
We also need to start going where we don’t normally go, areas like New York City and every other city in the country. We need to talk with people we don’t normally talk with.
We need to run for office, as scary as that can be. If we can’t run, we need to present the best candidates to run.
The biggest thing is that we HAVE TO WAKE UP. Having Trump in the White House is great and he is doing great things. We need to get off the sofa and get active. NOW. Run for office. NOW. Volunteer for candidates you believe in. NOW. Write op-eds to your local paper. NOW.
Kashab. And then act.
