ICE agents were conducting a targeted immigration law enforcement action in Glen Burnie, Maryland when Tiago Alexandre Sousa-Martins, driving a white van, refused to exit the van on their orders and attempted to flee. He then proceeded to ram the van into ICE vehicles.
Then, according to an ICE spokesperson, the driver “began ramming his van into several ICE vehicles. He then drove his van directly at ICE officers, it appeared he was trying to run them over. Fearing for their lives and public safety, the officers defensively fired their service weapons, striking the driver. [The driver] then wrecked his van between two buildings, injuring the passenger,” the ICE spokesperson said.
A passenger of the vehicle, identified as Solomon Antonio Serrano-Esquivel, sustained minor injuries from the incident and was transported to the hospital.
Both the driver and the passenger are in stable condition.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division and the FBI are investigating this incident.
Governor Wes Moore stated that he was “aware of the incident” and would provide “support to the community.” We are not sure what that support will be and which community he is addressing.
