As we reported yesterday at the Easton Gazette, it’s time for the National Education Association, the only union with a charter granted by the U.S. Congress, to have that charter repealed.
Congressman Mark Harris, Republican from North Carolina, believes that too.
On Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Harris will lead Members of Congress as well as supporting organizations in a press conference in Washington D.C. at the House Triangle calling for the NEA’s congressional charter to be removed.
In a press statement from his office, Harris stated, “Last week, the NEA voted to fight against President “Trump’s embrace of fascism”, voted to promote LGBTQ events in public schools, and voted to sever all ties with the Anti-Defamation League. The NEA’s blatant political bias, combined with their promotion of hatred and antisemitism, must be called out.”
A similar bill was proposed but not passed in 2019 by former Congressman Bob Good from Virginia.
