SALISBURY, Maryland – Authorities from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office are looking into a situation where a “1st grade student brought an unloaded gun” to Beaver Run Elementary School.
The Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with the Wicomico County Public Schools to investigate the incident involving a “1st grade student who brought an unloaded handgun” to Beaver Run Elementary School.
A teacher observed a suspected handgun in the hands of a 7-year-old student before the end of the school day. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when the student brought the unloaded firearm to school.
According to local law enforcement, the teacher along with the school officials adhered to all safety protocols by promptly “notifying the proper public school authorities, law enforcement, and the parents.”
The Wicomico County Public Schools and Beaver Run Elementary are working closely with the Sheriff’s Office during the investigation. Officials confirmed that all students and staff were safely released without any further complications.
