In Hagerstown, Maryland, a man named Anthony Jacob Fritz was arrested on Friday for reportedly making threats to bomb a Maryland Vehicle Administration (MVA) building where he worked.
Fritz, an employee at the MVA on Colonel Henry K. Douglas Drive, is facing charges for making threats of mass violence and arson.
The incident unfolded at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday when a Maryland State Police trooper was alerted by colleagues about Fritz’s alleged bomb threat towards the building.
Following a preliminary inquiry, law enforcement officers called in the Office of the State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad and an explosive detection canine team to search the premises. Fortunately, no explosives were discovered during the building sweep, and the investigation was handed over to Deputy State Fire Marshals.
Upon consultation with the Washington County State’s Attorney’s Office, Fritz was apprehended based on an arrest warrant.
Authorities also obtained an Extreme Risk Protective Order (ERPO) to search Fritz’s residence, which resulted in the discovery of 26 firearms and 67 containers of ammunition. Subsequently, Fritz was taken for a medical evaluation at a nearby hospital.
