The National Mall hosts the biggest celebration for viewing the solar eclipse, featuring the National Air and Space Museum and scientific organizations like NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Attend a free, family-friendly afternoon festival offering the opportunity to safely observe the eclipse through solar telescopes and sun spotters, watch live NASA video feeds from the totality path, and view the sun using a satellite’s ultraviolet cameras. Explore how ancient civilizations perceived eclipses, engage in pinhole art activities, and discover color patterns in sunlight by experimenting with prisms and spectrographs. Limited solar eclipse viewing glasses will be provided at the event, and additional glasses will be distributed at the Air and Space Museum and the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center starting in late March. Glasses will also be available for purchase at museum gift shops. The event takes place from noon to 4 p.m. on the National Mall between Fourth and 12th streets.
