Since 2006, MaxPreps has annually recognized the top performers in prep women’s basketball. The American high school sports source continues its tradition of naming the top players from each state to conclude the 2023-24 season. Selection is based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state awards.
Jeselle Banks of Ursuline Academy (Wilmington) has been named the 2023-24 Delaware MaxPreps Player of the Year. The 5-foot-7 freshman point guard led the Raiders to an 18-6 record and a state championship.
Banks averaged 21.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.6 steals per game this season. She shot 63 percent from the field and had three highs of 32 points, including twice in the playoffs.
In the DIAA title game, Banks scored 29 points and made a free throw with 1.9 seconds left to give Ursuline Academy a 49-48 victory over Carabelle (Bear).
Ohio State, South Carolina and Texas have already made offers to banks.
