Maryland Weather: Today Is The Warmest Day Of The Week

BALTIMORE — It’s an amazing day ahead with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the low 70s.

Temperatures will be in the upper 40s to low 50s this morning, so a jacket will come in handy.

The high pressure off the southeast coast isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Winds will shift more from the southwest and temperatures will trend higher, with highs near 80 degrees, albeit with some annoying high clouds. The air near the ground will remain dry, so it will quickly warm up.

Wonderful and warm: the perfect way to spend a day in the store. Plenty of sunshine will bring temperatures into the low 70s. BWI’s high temperature on Wednesday was 74 degrees, so we’ll inch past that. pic.twitter.com/klqY07Rv2S

But there’s a little drama here. By Thursday night, overnight temperatures will be warmer than normal as the low pressure system moves toward the southern Great Lakes, with temperatures in most areas only dropping into the mid to upper 50s. There may be some scattered showers, but most of the heavy rain should stay north of us.

Friday’s story is that we’re flying low toward New England, limping a bit thanks to an unrushed front. Even with drier air in the air and not much of an uplift from above, the precipitation looks light, with a chance for a shower or two. That said, don’t be surprised if a few thunderstorms occur. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly with more clouds, but once the sun peeks out, many of us will still be able to enjoy our mid-70s to near his 80s.

By Friday night, the front will finally slowly move through, letting go of any chance of rain. Temperatures will settle into the 40s to 50s.

Heading into the weekend, Saturday remains dry and comfortably warmer than expected for mid-March, with highs in the mid-60s for spectators. Sunday may start dry, but big changes are in store after that. A strong pressure trough will develop from Sunday into Tuesday, bringing the potential for showers and behind-the-scenes snow in the mountains. However, the real cold won’t hit until Tuesday, with temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 40s.

And a word of caution to all you gardeners out there. The official growing season hasn’t started yet, but early bloomers may not like next week’s cold snap. Several nights of sub-zero temperatures are possible, making it a challenging time for early blooms and leaf loss. Be sure to keep a plant cover on hand.
