You have to love Maryland Governor Wes Moore. He presents this squeaky clean image and constantly says he is “with the people.” Since he travels the country and the world so much instead of staying here in Maryland, it’s hard to know which people he is with. And, with all his travel and campaigning on a national level, events here show that he is not taking care of business in Maryland while it is rumored that he wants to run from President.
One non-profit organization that Moore appears to “be with” is WE OUR US.
We Our Us – A Baltimore Unity Movement
This group bills itself as a “grassroots unity movement” that is based in Baltimore, Maryland. They state their mission as empowering young, Black men in order to reduce violence and make their communities better.
Supposedly, the group organizes rallies, neighborhood walks and meetings encouraging men to get active in their communities. They focus on crime and violence prevention via education, employment and personal development of young men.
In August 2025, We Our Us received a $6.1 million dollar grant through the State of Maryland and its bigger $30.4 million package approved by Governor Moore and the Board of Public Works. The contract, which appears to be linked to the States Department of Juvenile Services, lasts until 2030. The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services and Secretary Vincent Schiraldi was under scrutiny until Schiraldi resigned in June of 2025.
Other recent scandals under the Moore Administration deal with the placement of foster children unvetted foster families and even in hotel rooms. The death of a 16-year-old in a hotel room in Baltimore recently brought that issue to the forefront.
This grant funding was part of a broader $30.4 million investment package approved by Governor Wes Moore and the Board of Public Works in August 2025. The grant to We Our Us was specifically designated to help the organization engage and support young people who have been involved in the justice system.
Sounds great, right? Who wouldn’t want to support getting young men involved in their communities?
The problem is that We Our Us has not filed tax records since 2022. The Maryland Secretary of State’s Charitable Organizations Division lists We Our Us as not in good standing due to missing financial reports. The IRS has no Form 990 filings since 2022 either. This form is critical for nonprofits to disclose their finances, governance, and operations.
Both of these filings are required for any group that maintains non-profit status and/or accepts public funds. Many media outlets and others are questioning how such a large state award could be given to a group which has not been transparent in its public filings.
The “Spotlight on Maryland” initiative—led by WBFF, The Baltimore Sun, and WJLA—is conducting a statewide investigation into nonprofit funding and financial compliance. Other non-profits such as BMORE EMPOWERED, which is linked to Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott’s wife, have also been delinquent in filing and are under scrutiny. Here is link to one of the stories in “Spotlight on Maryland.”

As the 2026 Gubernatorial Election looms, many residents in Maryland are losing confidence in Wes Moore who has turned the State’s $5.5 billion surplus into a projected $3.3 billion deficit by the end of 2025. He consistently focuses on protecting illegal aliens and laid off federal government workers while the taxpayers of Maryland have been hit with exorbitant increases in fees and taxes to cover the deficit, making donations to groups like We Our Us more suspect.
His social media pages are filled with negative comments from those citizens questioning Moore’s constant appearances on national political shows while he doesn’t seem to care about Maryland at all. Many still believe he is going to run for President.
This trend of donating to non-profit organizations who do not file required paperwork, financial statements, etc. is not only being exposed statewide but also in cities and towns throughout Maryland and the United States.
Prior to 2025, it appears that no one has been paying attention. Now they are.
