Mayor Brandon Scott Needs a Serious Reality Check

We woke up this morning to Jake Tapper interviewing Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott. Scott was speaking because President Trump, in a press conference about bringing the National Guard into Washington D. C., mentioned Baltimore as one of the country’s cities that needs to be cleaned up.

Here is a link to that interview:

The first thing we noticed is that Mayor Scott looks like he either jumped out of bed and went straight to the interview or had been smoking a joint before he talked to Tapper. Would it be that hard for this guy to wear a suit and look professional?

Worse is that he seems totally removed from reality in the interview. When asked about the President’s comments that Baltimore was “very bad,” and “so far gone” Scott did the usual deflection tactic and said the President shouldn’t be talking about crime in big cities but the economy and, oh yeah, the Epstein Files.

Then he followed up with “women lie, men lie but numbers don’t lie.”

Well, they do if you don’t count the right things. It’s well known that Baltimore City has done what many political entities do, they make sure they omit stats from the numbers that hurt their cause.

New report reveals Baltimore crime rates rising by nearly 80% in some neighborhoods

In Baltimore’s case, since the Maryland Legislature passed a law in 2024 that allows juveniles to get away with just about any crime, the city just stopped counting crimes by underage criminals. If you read the article from FOX 45 found at the link above, you will see how the overall numbers Scott touts are simply not accurate. A quote from that article:

“Crime should not be politicized,” said Sgt. Betsy Smith. Smith is a retired veteran police officer and spokesperson with the National Police Association. She weighs in more about the numbers, which she warns could be worse.

“Over 40% of crime is not getting reported. You can do all kinds of things with statistics. But people, and those people are voters, see the reality of what is happening in their neighborhood,” said Smith.

Even more of an impact is the graphic from CNN that was posted during Scott’s interview:

When Scott was confronted with the graphic and the headline from the Sun, he stated, “I don’t read the Baltimore Sun because it is part of President Trump’s propaganda machine.” Who knew Scott was a comedian as well as a mayor? Anyone who lives in Maryland knows the Sun is a far cry from conservative much less leaning toward Trump. Take another toke, Brandon.

He touted the fact that the city’s crime rate has come down while being listed as the 3rd highest in violent crime rates in the country. He was wrong about the ranking. This is from Newsweek, August 13, 2025:

Map Shows US Cities Where Homicide Rates Are Highest – Newsweek

From FREEDOM FOR ALL AMERICANS :America’s Murder Capitals: A 2025 Ranking of the Deadliest Cities

Scott who seems annoyed that “We’re only having this discussion because the President is having this discussion,” proposes solutions. One is to have “deep partnerships” with local and state governments (i.e. money for him to give away to groups run by his cronies) but not the Feds.

Another is for Trump to ban the right of citizens to own AR-15’s. After all, citizens should NOT be allowed to defend themselves.

But the best of his ideas is to go to the “small group of violent criminals” sit down and tell them to “change your life.” Remember that the next time you are mugged!

Yep, that ought to do it.

He also said that residents understand that the problem won’t be solved overnight. Do they? Here is a report from FOX 45 about complaints from residents of Baltimore’s Federal Hill:

Residents of Fed Hill demand action amid crime surge

It’s clear that Brandon Scott doesn’t have a clue. While he complains about people talking about crime in Baltimore, he continues to give millions to failed “crime intervention” strategies, things get worse and worse in his city. From a 2022 story at local news site Liberty Unyielding:

Baltimore stepping up support for failed alternative to crime prevention – Liberty Unyielding

From that article:

A couple of years ago, during the height of the “defund the police” movement, Baltimore stepped up municipal support for a program known as the Safe Streets anti-violence initiative. (It had been around in various forms since 2007.) While trimming back the police presence in the city, the program chose to send out “violence intervention” workers to try to convince gang members to stop shooting each other, along with random members of the community. The results have been less than spectacular to put it charitably. The murder rate in Baltimore remains worse than that seen in Kabul on its worst days. The city recently conducted an internal review of the Safe Streets program and the results were published this week. They found the program to be lacking in oversight with the workers not having sufficient training to undertake this dangerous type of intervention. In response to these findings, Mayor Brandon Scott amazingly announced that he would be beefing up the program further with another $10 million to be allocated to the effort.

I think they call that “doubling down.” Or maybe it’s “tripling down.”

The Baltimore Sun reports:

An internal review of Baltimore’s Safe Streets anti-violence initiative found the program lacked oversight, and half of the workers described their training as inadequate. City officials announced the findings Wednesday, along with a $10 million investment to improve program operations and establish a “community violence intervention ecosystem.” …

But rather than turn away from the approach, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott plans to invest more in Safe Streets.

Safe Streets | Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement

We agree with Brandon Scott on one thing. There needs to be some kind of intervention. But it’s not with potential violent offenders.

It’s a reality check intervention with incompetent and delusional mayors such as Brandon Scott.

I think we have a guy for that.
