Maryland State Police are issuing a reminder to all drivers about the new speed camera fines that will be effective starting October 1, with maximum penalties now ranging from $40 to $425. This new structured penalty framework, introduced by House Bill 182, will be enforced across all speed monitoring systems in the state. In the past, drivers caught going 15 mph over the speed limit received the same $40 fine as those going 45 mph over.
The updated civil penalties will be as follows:
- 12-15 mph over: $40
- 16-19 mph over: $70
- 20-29 mph over: $120
- 30-39 mph over: $230
- 40+ mph over: $425
