Jones called for assistance, and a Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) officer arrived at the location.
According to MSP, Tilton brandished a knife and attacked the PGPD officer. The officer attempted to subdue him with a stun gun, which was not effective. Subsequently, Jones discharged his agency-issued firearm, striking Tilton.
Following the shooting, an MSP trooper and Prince George’s County emergency medical services personnel provided aid to Tilton at the scene before he was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities suspect a connection between the crash and the subsequent shooting. As part of the investigation, northbound lanes on U.S. Route 301 between Queen Anne Rd. and Trade Zone Ave. were closed off.
