Policy Limits Free Speech By Requiring The Use of “Preferred Pronouns” and Supports Cross Gender Use Of Bathrooms and Locker Rooms
While the over sixty generation is taking on the cause of gang members, stifling free speech and teaching children that they are not perfect in their gender identity, there is hope! The young people in several Frederick County Public Schools are proof!
Students in the Frederick County Public Schools organized a protest for Friday, May 23, 2025. The protest was against FCPS policy 443. The policy had been approved by the Frederick County Board of Education on This is a copy of that policy:
The vote was not unanimous, and the Board is said to be reconsidering the section which compels speech.
In short, the policy is claimed to “prevent discrimination, stigmatization, harassment, and bullying of students who are transgender or gender nonconforming” and to “create school cultures that are safe, welcoming, and affirming for all students.”
As part of the policy, students, teachers, staff alike are required to use a student’s “preferred pronouns.” It also allows students to use the bathroom or locker room of their self-chosen gender identity as well as play on sports teams of the genders they identify as, not their actual gender.
The following schools reported that students had organized and participated in the protest, Thurmont Elementary; Oakdale Middle; Walkersville Middle; Sabillasville Environmental; Thurmont Middle; New Market Middle; Linganore High; and Catoctin High. Five schools indicated that staff was not aware of the protest and that the walkout was not given official approval. All students returned to school after the protest.
It’s not known how many students participated in the protest. As one member of the community stated, “Our young people see how wrong this policy is. They are the ones who have to deal with the ramifications of all these poorly conceived and discriminatory policies and they have had enough.”
