We did a story earlier this week regarding summer “sex camps” for kids.
The article caused quite a bit of alarm among readers who even wondered if this was really true. Sadly, it is true.
Just in case you thought the sex camps were the worst-case scenarios, there are other sexual identity/ideology camps out there. These camps cater to trans children; some children as young as 4 years old. Here is a link to one that caters to trans children, trans only, not gay, aged 5 to 17:
The camp description seems tame. Art, music, play, being silly, all the normal things kids do at camp. The camp claims that they don’t really talk about sexual identity “that much.” If that is true then why is the camp JUST for trans children? It’s not just about trans children having fun like other kids. From their Q&A:
Are you a trans-led organization?
We sure are! We are founded and led by trans people, and 95% of staff are trans and/or gender expansive identified.
A couple of observations. First, the term “gender expansive” in the description of the staff is troubling. Here is a definition of that term: (Source: What does “gender expansive” mean? – LGBTQ Nation)
The “gender expansive” definition as per the Diversity Style Guide – a resource created for journalists and media professionals reporting on issues affecting the LGBTQ community, – is “people who challenge cultural expectations regarding gender roles, identities, expressions or norms.”
We bolded that last part for emphasis. In their own words, the LGBTQIA+ community is telling us that “gender expansive” means anything goes. I’m not sure I would want someone with that belief working as a camp counselor with any child. We also wonder if a staff that is 95% trans or gender expansive can truly run a camp that is just normal fun and not trans indoctrination. Another question and interesting answer:
I have a gay daughter. Can I send her to this camp?
Love that for her! Camp Indigo is a camp for trans and non-binary youth. We are not an “LGBTQ camp.” So – though we love queer youth, this isn’t the right space for your kiddo.
Question is, why not? Aren’t these groups supposed to be “inclusive” in nature? Isn’t this a bit like not allowing different ethnic groups into a camp? Don’t we call that discrimination? Isn’t this what the progressive LGBTQIA+ community condemns so called “CIS” communities for?
*By the way, we hate the use of the term “kiddo” to refer to children. Seems cheap and dismissive.
And, camp is not cheap. Camp prices listed are from $500 per camper.

Don’t worry though. You might be able to get free attendance or even free travel for your child.
Some camps follow strict percentages of participation such as this one out of California called “CAMP IT UP!”:
The Camp It Up, Inc. (CIU!) Board of Directors was created in 2008 and is the governing body with fiduciary responsibility for our nonprofit organization.
Camp It Up! (CIU!) is not immune to the systems of oppression that exist everywhere. As a Camp that for decades had been majority white in its leadership and campers, and is now, as of 2022, a majority Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) LGBTQAI+ space, we continue our commitment to intentionally work to transform into a welcoming and safe Camp where all LGBTQAI+ families and allies, particularly those living at the intersections of marginalized identities, know they are at home.
Representation matters. For youth and adult campers to see themselves reflected in the CIU! Leadership increases self-esteem, blooms pride, well-being, and a desire to increase their leadership. In 2023, our CIU! Leadership Team included: 100% LGBTQAI+ families; 100% LGBTQAI+ Camp Directors, Counselors-in-Training, Camp Counselors and Specialists; 67% BIPOC Camp Directors, 58% BIPOC Camp Staff; and 50% Non-binary, Gender Queer, Gender Nonconforming, and Transgender Camp Staff. Additionally, in 2024, members of our Bord of Directors include: 67% BIPOC, 83% LGBTQAI+, 100% are parents, 83% are parents of LGBTQAI+ youth, and 66% are parents of trans, non-binary, genderqueer, gender nonconforming, and/or gender expansive youth.
Our 2024 organizational Diversity Equity Inclusion (DEI) Goals include a minimum participation of:
- 60% BIPOC Campers, Leadership Team members, and Board of Director members
- 60% LGBTQAI+ Campers (prioritizing increasing the % LGBTQAI+ youth), Leadership Team members, and Board of Directors members
- 25% Camperships and first time Campers (prioritizing increasing % of BIPOC first timers).
They must carry calculators with them during admissions. It’s also interesting that they don’t seem to like White people on staff.
You can find a list of other gender camps here:
LGBTQ Camps for Youth, Adults, and Families — GenderSexuality.Info
Most of the names seem innocuous until you look at the description. Some of the camp links no longer work, so either they no longer exist or they have been renamed.
The following camp doesn’t even try to hide what they promote:
QORDS | Queer Oriented Radical Days of Summer
Here is there mission:
By empowering Southern queer youth and building community through music and the arts, QORDS is a vehicle for expressing gender and sexuality, and harbors an environment of self-discovery and social change.

What is illuminating is who sponsors some of these camps. Many hide their donors under “privacy policies.” However, since they are mostly non-profits, their donors are available through Freedom of Information Act inquiries. When looking through the camps on the list, we saw one particularly interesting sponsor.
Home | AmeriCorps – This FEDERALLY FUNDED program helped fund some of these camps. Their funding was recently cut by the Department of Government Efficiency so we are not sure if their sponsorship continues.
AmeriCorps members are let go in DOGE cuts | AP News
In the past, they have manned these camps and even provided airplane travel free to participants. When was the last time YOU were offered free air travel for your child to a camp?
And then there is this sponsor:
Trans Hormone Care | Family Tree Clinic
Is there a connection?
Here’s another camp just for kids aged 6-9:
Unicorn Day Camp · Gender Camps
The camp touts the usual activities, but also talks about “unicorn magic.” We are not sure what that term means. Here is one of the “partners” for this camp (a psychologist) describing herself. She is also one of the program directors:

Definition of “queer-femme”:
A queer femme is a person whose gender expression is considered to be feminine. This term can apply to cisgender women, transgender women, gender-nonconforming individuals, or non-binary people. It originally distinguished feminine lesbian and bisexual women from butch women. (Femme – Queer Cultures 101)
We weren’t sure why “female” is suddenly spelled with an “x” instead of an “a” so we looked it up:
Etymology
[edit]
From female + -x-. Respelled both to avoid containing male, and to use x (like e.g. Latinx), intended to convey that the word has a broad scope. Compare womxn.
So they spell it that way to assure there is no mention of the word “male” in the word “female.” Wow.
Here are the services this femxle provides outside of camp:

There are other camps as well, some in places one wouldn’t expect.
Here’s a video supporting “Queer Camp” in Arkansas:

Here are some of the activities of Queer Camp:

Interesting that the parents must approve the “free affirming haircuts.” Also interesting that, unlike some public schools, this camp will provide a “name change clinic” only with the permission of parents.
Let’s not kid ourselves. There are all kinds of camps for kids everywhere. Going to camp has been a summer ritual and rite of passage for decades in this country. Summer camp is a way for kids to learn about others, to learn about themselves, to learn fun crafts and outdoor skills, and to learn how to get along without mom and dad at their side. There are camps for disabled children, for children suffering from different illnesses, different situations, for different sports and creative talents, etc. Those camps allow children to be with other children who can understand their plight or who share their interests. They allow these children to have fun and be “kids.” There’s nothing wrong with that.
The problem comes when sex and sexual identity becomes the focus. It’s inappropriate, particularly with young children.
This website run by the American Camps Association, allows parents to find camps that fit the needs of their child:
Find a Camp | American Camp Association
Parents can go to this site and specify which kind of camp they want. Yes, a parent can go there and under the caption, “Special Populations Served” find LGBTQ and “gender diverse.” The ACA accredits the camps listed.
Most summer camps are also inclusive to all children with certain limits for age. After all, aren’t Progressives always talking about inclusivity and making all children feel a part of the community?
But not most of the LGBTQIA+ and trans camps. They are strictly regulated.
We wonder how these children are pre-qualified for trans camp? Who tells the camp that the child, especially a four- or five-year-old, is trans? Is it the parents? After all, children who are not trans are not allowed to attend some of these camps but most four year olds have NO IDEA what gender means.
Who convinces parents that their child MUST go to one of these camps for their mental health?
Certainly it’s not the child themselves unless a parent is telling them how to identify. Does the camp confirm the trans identity? How? Do they demand records from a mental health or medical authority? Do they violate HIPPA laws? Do parents have to approve their child’s attendance at the camp or can a child attend merely because he/she wants to?
Is part of the camp “experience” explaining the long-term harmful effects of hormone blockers, cross sex hormones, and disfiguring surgery? Doubtful. Are there any sessions helping kids overcome a possibly temporary period of gender dysphoria? Doubtful.
What if a parent refuses to identify his/her child as transgender and the child can’t go to the camp? Will the parent be punished? It’s possible in Colorado where legislators want to make “misgendering” or “misnaming” a child grounds for removal from their home. Not allowing one’s child to go to trans camp may be seen as mental abuse.
The camps above seem to have a different “us versus them” vibe. They seem more intent on creating a generation of people who will consider themselves victims and will spend their lives in perpetual angst and anger. They also have an “activist” feel that defeats the whole purpose of a child going to a summer camp for fun and to meet different people.
Have we forgotten in this country what it is to be a child? Have we forgotten how to get different groups of children together to have fun and learn new things?
Sadly, summer camp has become one more way we keep dividing the population of this country. Activist groups know it and are exploiting division and our children to achieve that division. And we haven’t even talked about those individuals who have insidious motives for hosting and working at these camps.
Alarming at the least.
HERE at the EASTON GAZETTE, we feel that knowledge/information about what is going on in the world, the country, your state, and your community when it comes to our children is VITALLY important so that parents can make the best decisions for their children. We also feel that parents have the right to direct the upbringing of their child.
