Senate Majority Leader Thune Announced at 10:50 a.m. on July 1 that the Senate was going to pass Trump’s Big Beautiful Budget Bill. A short while later, and with a tie breaking vote from Vice President Vance, the bill finally passed. Republicans say the bill will create economic growth due to an increase in take home pay for families via tax cuts.
What Thune didn’t announce were the deals and changes that had to be made to pass it. While Trump may claim victory, many of his supporters will not be happy. The bill encompassed tax cuts, immigration enforcement funding, changes to Medicaid, and had serious opposition from Democrats and a few Republicans. Republican Senators Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Susan Collins of Maine voted against the bill. Tillis has already announced that he will not be running for re-election.
The bill now makes it way to the House where it will face concerns from fiscal conservatives and moderates. The possibility remains that it may not pass the House and will have to be sent back to the Senate for an additional vote.
This is a developing story.
