Former President Donald Trump stated in a Truth Social post on Saturday that he has ordered military strikes against Yemen’s Ansar Allah group, commonly known as the Houthis.

The Houthis acknowledged that there were strikes in their areas, including in Sanaa, the capital city. The Houthis, bolstered by support from Iran, have been targeting maritime traffic in the Red Sea since December 2023 to assist Hamas amid its conflict with Israel, leading to major disruptions in global trade.
In January, an executive order reclassified the Houthis as a terrorist organization, reversing the decision made by the Biden administration that had removed them from the State Department’s list of terrorist groups.
Since 2015, Saudi Arabia, along with occasional support from Jordanian, Israeli, and American forces, has been engaged in military action against the Houthis to support Yemen’s internationally recognized government. Moreover, Trump announced late Friday that U.S. forces had successfully eliminated an ISIS leader in a military operation in Iraq.
