Drivers in Charles County, Maryland, were surprised by an unusual sight on Friday morning: what seemed like a significant amount of counterfeit money fluttering around the busy streets of Waldorf — prompting multiple calls to authorities.
The spectacle had evidently caused quite a commotion, with many onlookers and even some drivers pulling over and making U-turns to catch a glimpse of what they thought might be an unexpected cash infusion.
A driver who stopped to grab one of the bills shared a photo “NOT LEGAL TENDER FOR EDUCATIONAL USE ONLY” printed on the front, produced by a company named Lakeshore Learning Materials.
Diane Richardson, spokesperson for the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, mentioned that authorities received numerous reports on Friday morning regarding the money swirling around the road. A police officer was dispatched to the location, managed to recover some of the counterfeit currency, and also alerted the Maryland State Highway Administration.
