Millions of people have watched as the California Governor Gavin Newsome and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have done little to nothing to prevent rioters to burn Los Angeles to the ground. Vice President J.D. Vance in a visit to L.A. on June 20th, stated that the city had gotten better since the deployment on U.S. Marines and soldiers last week. Citizens and business owners told Vance that the deployments were “still a very necessary part” of quelling the violence.

.@VP: “If you enforce your own laws … we’re not going to send in the National Guard because it’s unnecessary — but if you let violent rioters burn great American cities to the ground, then of course we’re going to send federal law enforcement in to protect the people.” pic.twitter.com/GurYfTr0Yb

Vance sited the fact that law enforcement and public services have been strained by the riots, which he said were “actively encouraged” by both Newsome and Bass.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled on Thursday, June 19th that Trump was allowed to federalize the California National Guard. Vance explained the gist of the 38-page ruling saying it was ” a completely legitimate and proper use of federal law enforcement.” The judges said the President is likely to prevail on the merits of the case and extended a stay of the district court’s temporary restraining order against the administration.

Newsome’s claims that Trump had not consulted him on the deployment were said to be “invalid” since Trump had informed the Governor of his pending actions. Two thousand federalized California National Guardsmen were sent to Los Angeles to calm the violence. Additionally, the Pentagon sent hundreds of U.S. Marines to support the Guard.
