Anglers usually return to the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier by Easter, but the reopening of the iconic landmark has been delayed due to repairs from a vehicle crash.
According to Dee Nachnani, spokesperson for the Sibony family who owns the pier, safety is a top priority, and they are ensuring that all necessary repairs are done properly before reopening.
The pier sustained damage to its gates and railing in the crash, prompting the owners to obtain a city permit for repairs, which are currently underway.
Once the repairs are completed and the city gives the green light, the pier will undergo inspection before welcoming back fishermen, crabbers, tourists, and sightseers.
On January 27, a tragic incident occurred when a Virginia Beach man drove an SUV through the pier’s gates and into the water, resulting in his death. The community was left in shock by the incident. The pier owners are committed to reopening the pier soon.
