The funding from Walmart will aid in the creation of 72 megawatts (MWdc) of community solar projects. Together, these ventures will boost the production of renewable energy and decrease the dependence on fossil fuels, consequently lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
Of particular note, 41 MWdc of projects in Colorado are tailored to cater specifically to low and moderate-income households, substantially alleviating energy expenses for vulnerable communities. These community solar projects are scheduled for construction between 2024 and 2025, and are anticipated to offer over 7,000 households the opportunity to subscribe to community solar, potentially saving them more than $6 million annually, while also extending these benefits to local businesses and organizations.
Pivot Energy will collaborate with landowners to maximize solar energy production as well as agricultural output on a number of community solar projects, utilizing a concept known as agrivoltaics. At these locations, various sustainable land management practices will be employed, such as drip irrigation to enable crop growth in the spaces between the solar panels, sheep grazing, habitat enrichment, and other environmentally responsible approaches.
