PRINCESS ANNE, MD—A sad ending to the search for a missing waterman unfolded on Thursday when the body of Ted Allen Briddelle, 58, was discovered by Maryland Natural Resources Police in Tangier Sound, close to Deal Island. Briddelle, a resident of Princess Anne, had tragically fallen overboard from a 41-foot commercial crabbing boat on Tuesday morning.
The retrieval operation took place at 4:02 PM, about two miles from where Briddelle went overboard. His body was found near the shoreline of a private property, several days after he was reported missing near Mud Rock on July 23 at 8:20 AM.
After the initial distress call, Natural Resources Police, with the help of other agencies, initiated an extensive search effort.
Although the Coast Guard stopped their search on the evening of July 23, local search operations persisted until the eventual discovery on Thursday.
The body has been forwarded to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for detailed examination to determine the cause of death, and inquiries into the incident are ongoing.
