PRESS RELEASE: Somerset County Public Schools

November 3, 2025 (Westover, MD) – The Somerset County Board of Education voted today to approve the employment contract for Mr. David Bromwell, appointing him as Interim Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS), effective November 3, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

The Board has emphasized its commitment to ensuring academic growth, improved student behavior, and safe, respectful learning environments for all students. Mr. Bromwell brings extensive leadership experience and a proven record of service in public education, making him the most experienced public-school superintendent currently serving on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The Board remains determined to guide the 2025–2026 school year forward in a timely, safe, and successful manner.

Mr. Bromwell joins SCPS following a distinguished 36-year career in Maryland education, all within Dorchester County Public Schools. Before retiring as Superintendent of Dorchester County, he served as a teacher, assistant principal, principal, and held numerous other leadership positions dedicated to enhancing student achievement and success.

SCPS extends sincere appreciation to the educational leaders who recommended Mr. Bromwell for this role, as well as to Mr. Bromwell himself for returning from retirement to serve the students, staff, and families of Somerset County. His willingness to re-enter public service reflects a strong commitment to supporting our schools through a time of transition and opportunity.

The Somerset County Board of Education and Somerset County Public Schools proudly welcome Mr. David Bromwell as Interim Superintendent.
