MARYLAND – May 22, 2024
The Maryland State Board of Elections (SBE) and the Baltimore City Board of Elections have identified the cause of discrepancies in votes reported on election night compared to the verification reporting.
A total of 584 extra ballots were included on election night, impacting 10 precincts including 21-01, 21-02, 21-04, 23-03, 24-04, 16-13, 22-01, 22-02, 23-01, and 25-04. The discrepancy was a result of not uploading results from 3 ballot scanners and duplicating results from 5 precincts. The SBE is conducting post-election audits to ensure accurate results before certification.
The SBE is also reviewing their procedures for election night reporting to prevent such discrepancies in the future, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the voting process. Voters can have confidence in the accuracy of their votes, as thorough verification processes are in place.
