WORCESTER COUNTY MARYLAND – FEBRUARY 22, 2024
Lou Taylor, Superintendent of Worcester County Public Schools, has openly admitted to the existence of safety issues within the schools. He expressed that due to the amount of questioning, his administration have not been able to prioritize addressing these safety concerns despite being repeatedly urged to do so. In a recent video clip, he conveyed his frustration over the challenges they face and pointed fingers at others for the inability to ensure the safety of children. The question arises whether collaborating with law enforcement could provide a viable solution.
“My leadership team has not been actively engaged in supporting our schools to tackle safety issues. It’s understandable that concerns exist as we have not been able to provide the necessary assistance as we should,” Taylor remarked.
Concerns were raised during the board meeting on March 19, 2024, highlighting the vulnerability of both students and staff. A dangerous situation looms, with the blame game further complicating efforts to address safety concerns. The urgency of the matter is underscored by the inevitability of potential incidents.
The pressing question now is whether Taylor is adequately prepared or whether the next incident will expose another victim to potential harm. The lingering threat to safety persists due to what appears to be a palpable neglect on the part of school officials, edging towards being termed as gross negligence.
Regrettably, Taylor has expressed reluctance to involve the State’s Attorney in forthcoming discussions or meetings regarding school safety. Inclusivity should never be selective, and discrimination must not find a place in these critical discussions. It is hoped that both Taylor and the board will make the right decision and engage fully with the Sheriff’s Office and the State’s Attorney in addressing school safety concerns moving forward.
