Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office has reported the conviction of a resident from Mardela Springs for sexually abusing a minor under the age of 15. Prosecutors state that Lorenzo Buggs, 37, committed the abuse during the summer of 2024. Following this, he allegedly tried to persuade the victim not to report the incident and to lie about it.
“The trust that is shattered when a child is abused is incredibly difficult to mend,” remarked State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes. “Abusers often exploit the hidden nature of these horrible acts to avoid capture and legal consequences. In this case, the defendant went to the extent of trying to silence the victim. However, the survivor showed great bravery in coming forward to testify against him, which was crucial in achieving a fair result.”
Sentencing for Buggs is currently awaiting decision.
