WICOMICO COUNTY – May 19, 2024
In Salisbury, Maryland, a fatal multiple-vehicle collision is being investigated by the Maryland State Police following an incident that occurred early Sunday morning on May 19th in Wicomico County.
Just before 2:50 a.m., law enforcement officers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack were dispatched to a head-on crash on the southbound lanes of US Route 13, south of St. Luke’s Road in Wicomico County. Initial findings suggest that Jay Richard Bynum, a 59-year-old from Seaford, Delaware, was driving a 2013 Dodge Durango north in the southbound lanes of Route 13 when he collided with a 2016 Subaru Impreza.
The driver of the Subaru, Dean Alexander Dennison, aged 21, and a passenger, Sierra Rain Merchant, aged 20, both from New York, tragically lost their lives at the crash site. A 1-year-old child who was also in the Subaru was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries. Bynum was airlifted by the Maryland State Police helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore to receive medical care for his injuries.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is spearheading the investigation, with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office being involved, and charges being considered in this case. The incident is still being looked into by authorities.
