SALISBURY, Maryland — The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office has charged two Wicomico Middle School students following an investigation into a stolen firearm that was allegedly brought onto school grounds.
According to the Sheriff’s Office School Resource Division, the investigation began on June 2 after Wicomico County Public Schools notified authorities of information involving two students and a firearm.
Investigators learned that a 15-year-old Salisbury juvenile allegedly stole a firearm from a residence in Virginia over the weekend and brought the weapon to Wicomico Middle School on June 1. Authorities say the student then transferred possession of the firearm to a 14-year-old Salisbury student while at school.
School officials immediately alerted law enforcement after receiving the information, prompting an investigation by deputies assigned to the School Resource Division.
As a result of the investigation, deputies located the 14-year-old student and recovered the stolen firearm from the juvenile’s residence. The student was taken into custody and later released to the custody of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.
On June 3, deputies also took the 15-year-old student into custody. The juvenile will be referred to and transferred to the custody of the Maryland Department of Juvenile Services.
The 15-year-old faces multiple charges, including possession of a stolen regulated firearm, possession of a dangerous weapon on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, and unlawful transfer of a regulated firearm.
The 14-year-old has been charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and unlawful transfer of a regulated firearm.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains ongoing and that deputies are continuing to work closely with Wicomico County Public Schools.
Authorities emphasized their commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment and ensuring the safety of students, staff, and the broader community.
No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
