Maryland Governor Wes Moore is set to grant pardons for 175,000 marijuana convictions on Monday. The move comes after Maryland residents voted to legalize recreational cannabis through a constitutional amendment in November 2022. Governor Moore further solidified this decision by signing a law in May 2023 aimed at establishing and overseeing the state’s cannabis industry. The pardons will specifically target possession charges, offering relief to about 100,000 individuals.
In an interview with The Post, Moore expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m thrilled that we have a genuine opportunity, through what I am endorsing, to correct numerous historical injustices. If we aim to foster inclusive economic development, it is imperative to dismantle the obstacles that disproportionately impact communities of color.”
