Dr. Ava Tasker-Mitchell has been chosen as the forthcoming Superintendent of Somerset County Public Schools by the Somerset County Board of Education. Following a nationwide quest, Tasker-Mitchell emerged as the prime candidate for the Superintendent of Schools position.
Mr. Bill McInturff, Chairman of the Board of Education, expressed, “We are privileged to have selected a professional of Dr. Tasker-Mitchell’s caliber to steer our school system. Our choice has received approval from the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Carey Wright, and we are eagerly anticipating collaborating with Dr. Tasker-Mitchell this summer. Together, we are optimistic about tackling our challenges and aiding our students in achieving their academic potential while preparing them for future triumphs. The Board is appreciative of Dr. Gaddis for his contributions to our community and we extend our best wishes for his retirement.”
The Board intends to finalize the appointment of the new Superintendent’s contract at its meeting on June 17, 2024. Tasker-Mitchell will officially assume the role of Superintendent on July 1, 2024.
