Maryland State Police are looking into the death of a prisoner at the Eastern Correctional Institution in Somerset County.
The deceased, Eugene Stanford, 49, a native of Trappe, Maryland, was fatally injured at the facility around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, according to a police statement. The Eastern Correctional Institution is a medium-security prison located in Westover on the lower Eastern Shore.
Following an autopsy, authorities confirmed that foul play was involved in Stanford’s death, leading the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to classify it as a homicide.
While an inmate has been singled out as a potential suspect, no charges have been filed yet. The identity of the suspect will be withheld until charges are officially brought against them.
