Maryland State Police have apprehended a teenager from Salisbury, Cashmir Holbrook, in connection with a shooting incident that resulted in the death of 16-year-old Ja’siah Sin’cer Johnson and injuries to 22-year-old Jamere Capri Maynes in Wicomico County. Holbrook is facing charges as an adult, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and other related offenses. He has been taken to the Wicomico County Detention Center and is being detained without bail pending an initial court appearance before a District Court commissioner. Another teenager involved in the incident, Mykel Elliott, 17, was arrested on July 6th, 2023, and is also charged as an adult with similar offenses. Both Holbrook and Elliott are being held without bond as they await trial.

In the early hours of April 16, 2023, the Salisbury Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the 300 block of E. Carroll Street near Buena Vista Avenue in Salisbury, Maryland. Upon arrival, officers discovered Johnson and Maynes with multiple gunshot wounds. Johnson was pronounced dead at TidalHealth Peninsula Medical Center, while Maynes received medical treatment for his injuries. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit took charge of the investigation, with support from other law enforcement agencies.

Crime scene technicians processed the area, and witnesses were interviewed to gather information. Evidence was sent to the State Police Forensic Sciences Division for analysis. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101. Anonymity can be maintained for those providing tips.
