Authorities are looking into a shooting involving a state trooper that took place in Somerset County on Sunday evening. The incident happened around 8:00 PM in Marion Station.
According to officials, Maryland State Police were performing a criminal investigation when they identified a suspect in the 5600 block of Tulls Corner Road. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the suspect had a gun in their possession.
A trooper then arrived to assist another officer dealing with an assault complaint and subsequently discharged their weapon at the suspect.The suspect received medical attention at the scene, as confirmed by Maryland State Police.
They were then transported to the R Adams Shock Trauma Center by Trooper 4 from the Maryland State Police Aviation Command for further treatment. There were no reports of other injuries resulting from the incident.
The involved trooper has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted, according to Maryland State Police.
Crime scene technicians from Maryland State Police examined the area and recovered a firearm.
The investigation is being led by the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit in coordination with the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office.
At this moment, officials are not releasing the identity of the suspect.
