Scammers are becoming increasingly inventive in their tactics when carrying out fraudulent activities, according to the Salisbury Police Department.
A recent alert issued by the department cautions the public about a scam in which perpetrators are using the department’s phone number to impersonate SPD officers.
Victims of this scam are informed that they are the subject of a Homeland Security investigation.
Although no financial demands have been made by the fraudulent callers, Captain Ryan Koerner noted in a statement to 47abc that these types of deceptive calls are uncommon.
If you suspect that you have fallen victim to this or any similar scam, the police department advises contacting them at 410-548-3165.
